Beidellite clay from brown coal mine "Bełchatów" is a potential material for use in insulation geo-barriers. The characteristic feature of this type of soils is its significant variability, which requires testing of permeability parameters before application as an insulation geo-layer. Coefficient of permeability of cohesive soils can be effective define on the basis of consolidation tests, which are carried out at a constant rate of loading (CL) with a simultaneous measurement of a pore water pressure.
